Arts in April 2022 – Celebrate the Arts all Month Long
In celebration of World Art Day, the Winter Garden Arts Association and community partners will host a series of events throughout the month of April. Browse through the tabs above to learn about all the Arts in April events. All of the events are FREE, except for the fundraiser Art Night VIP. Chalkin’ It Up Sidewalk Art Contest
- Description: Bloom & Grow Garden Society presents the Chalkin’ It Up Sidewalk Art Contest at Spring Fever in the Garden. Come watch what these creative artists can do with piece of chalk.
- Where: City Hall, 300 W. Plant Street
- When: Saturday, April 2 & Sunday, April 3. Watch artists at work on Saturday and view their finished creations on Sunday.
Exhibition: High School Top Choice Annual Awards Show
- Description: A selection of high school students’ 2D & 3D works from SOBO Art Gallery’s Top Choice Annual Awards Show will be on display at City Hall. Free admission always.

Opening Reception: Top Choice Annual Awards Show
- Description: Opening reception to premiere SOBO’s Annual Awards Exhibition that showcases artists’ best 2D & 3D works in the Gallery. Awards are presented for Best of Show, People’s Choice, Curator’s Choice, and Multiple Medium Category Winners. In addition, visit the premiere of the Glow in the Dark Art exhibit in the Studio. Public is invited (no charge).

Kids Art Sessions at the Winter Garden Farmers Market
- Description: Complimentary Kids Art Sessions for children 4-12 years old. Come by the Art Tent to create a variety of art activities. No pre-registration is needed.

Urban Sketchers Competition and En Plein Air Event at Winter Garden Farmers Market

- Description: Watch artists’ creations come to life as they sketch their surroundings right before your eyes.
- Where: Participating artists: check in at SOBO Art Gallery, 127 S. Boyd Street. Bring blank paper or canvass to be stamped at check-in at SOBO Art Gallery. Create anywhere around Winter Garden Farmers Market/Downtown Pavilion, 104 S. Lakeview Avenue
- When: Saturday, April 9, 9 am (artists check in at SOBO). Deadline to submit is 6 pm. Upload up to three pics of your work by 6 pm on April 9 (one artwork should include the SOBO stamp). Winners announced April 12 by email and on wgart.org.
Pop-Up Events at Winter Garden Farmers Market
- Description: Visit the Farmers Market on April 23 for art-related surprises!

Downtown Art Scavenger Hunt
- Description: Kids of all ages are welcome to participate in the Downtown Art Scavenger Hunt to find clues throughout the businesses of historic Downtown Winter Garden
- Where: Check in/pick up Scavenger Hunt form at the SOBO Tent at the Winter Garden Farmers Market (104 S. Lakeview Ave.) then go on a Scavenger Hunt is through historic Downtown Winter Garden. Return Scavenger Hunt form to SOBO Art Gallery, 127 S. Boyd Street.

Pick-up Scavenger Clue Sheet/Conduct Scavenger Hunt: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (Winter Garden Farmers Market)
Deadline to return Clue Sheet to SOBO ART Gallery: 2:00 pm
The Art Honor Society of Horizon High School will distribute Scavenger Hunt clue forms from the SOBO Tent at Winter Garden Farmers Market from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 30. Follow the clues and return your Scavenger Hunt form to the SOBO Art Gallery, (127 S. Boyd Street) by 2:00 pm on April 30.
All answers must be correct to be eligible for the grand prize.
Chalk Art at City Hall
- Description: Two of the winning artists from this month’s Chalkin’ It Up Sidewalk Art Contest will share their talents once again to create new masterpieces. Come out during the day to watch them at work, and return at night to see their finished creations that create a visual stunning floor piece for the evening’s Art Night VIP event and the Arts in April Projection Show illuminated on City Hall.

Projection Art Show on City Hall
- Description: Artists’ works will be illuminated on the front façade of City Hall, creating a visually stunning immersive art experience. The public is invited to stroll by, grab a nearby bench, or bring a chair to enjoy the beautiful display powered by projection mapping.

Art Night VIP – Immersive Art Experience in Curated Venues in Downtown Winter Garden
- Description: Immerse yourself in the arts on this special night that grants VIP access to specially curated venues throughout downtown, complimentary beverages and light appetizers, as well as a silent and live auction. Immersive art experiences include a Glow in the Dark Art Exhibit at SOBO Art Gallery, Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit at Monarch Butterfly Sculpture Park, Behind the Scenes at Garden Theatre, and a P-ARTicipation Painting Project and Ritzi Art Auction at City Hall Art in Public Places Gallery, and an outdoor art show projected onto the front of City Hall.

Individual tickets are $75. Ticket price includes a $35 annual membership to the Winter Garden Art Association, which provides perks throughout the year. Technique Tuesday @ 2pm at SOBO
- Description: A different instructor each week shares knowledge and technique tips. Open to all and free to members and first-time visitors. Registration required at wgart.org/tuesday.

Call to Artists
Outside Call to Artists for General Display throughout the Year – DEADLINE: March 17
Calling all sculpture and outdoor artists: We are looking for creative outdoor art, sculptures, installations, interactive arts, etc…for multiple opportunities around the City of Winter Garden, including at the SOBO Art Gallery. Opportunities include special events, periodic exhibitions, City-wide seasonal themes and for general public display and enjoyment in Winter Garden. Current deadline for submissions is March 17, 2022. Submit at wgart.org/outside.
Outside Call to Artists for Top Choice Annual Awards Show – DEADLINE: March 1
Artists are encouraged to submit their best 2D & 3D works, open to all types of artistic entries. Winning entries will be on display at SOBO Art Gallery, April 5 – May 28. Entries are accepted March 1 – 8, 2022. Submit at wgart.org/artists/call-to-artists.
Chalkin’ It Up Sidewalk Art Contest – DEADLINE: March 18
Hosted by Bloom & Grow Garden Society as part of the two-day Spring Fever in the Garden festival.
Free to participate, but chalk will not be provided. Deadline to submit application is March 18, 2022, but space is limited so reserve your spot early. Click here for application.
Make your plans for early (daybreak is ok) Saturday, morning April 2, 2022 for “Chalkin’ It Up” in front of Winter Garden’s City Hall.
Each participant will have a 6’x6′ square and is asked to create something nature or garden related and appropriate for all ages to view.
Prizes will be awarded in numerous categories:
• Adult individual or group
• Elementary individual or group
• Middle School individual or group
• High School individual or group
• Family Group
• $400 for People’s Choice
• $700 for Best in Show
Participants who register before March 1 will receive a “Chalkin It Up” T-Shirt.

From an art exhibition and sidewalk chalk art contest to three kids art sessions and a scavenger hunt at the Farmers Market, Arts in April will delight all ages, including children.
