Fun Events to Celebrate Arts in April 2023
In celebration of World Art Day, the Winter Garden Arts Association and community partners will host a series of events for all ages throughout the month of April. Browse through the tabs above to learn about all the Arts in April events. All of the events are FREE, except for Art Night VIP, an annual fundraiser to benefit the Winter Garden Art Association.

Arts in April Activities
Chalkin’ It Up Sidewalk Art Contest
- Description: Bloom & Grow Garden Society presents the Chalkin’ It Up Sidewalk Art Contest at Spring Fever in the Garden. Come watch what these creative artists can do with piece of chalk. Each participant will have a 6×6 square in front of City Hall as their canvas and is asked to create something nature or garden related and appropriate for all ages to view.
- Where: City Hall, 300 W. Plant Street
- When: Saturday, April 1│ Chalkin’ It Up Sidewalk Art Contest commences at Daybreak and Judging is at 4:00 pm / Available for viewing April 1 -2 (weather permitting)
- Free to enter. Deadline to register is March 17. Space is limited and an application is required.
Prizes will be awarded in numerous categories:

Urban Sketchers Competition & En Plein Air Event at Winter Garden Farmers Market
- Description: Watch artists’ creations come to life as they sketch their surroundings right before your eyes.
- Where: Participating artists: check in at SOBO Art Gallery, 127 S. Boyd Street. Bring blank paper or canvass to be stamped at check-in at SOBO Art Gallery. Create anywhere around Winter Garden Farmers Market/Downtown Pavilion (104 S. Lakeview Avenue) or along Plant Street.
- When: Saturday, April 15, 9:00 am (artists check in at SOBO) through 2:00 pm. DEADLINE: To submit, upload up to two photos of completed art (one artwork should include the SOBO stamp) at wgart.org/urban by 11:00 pm on April 15. Arts in April Light Show
- Description: An outdoor projection show with artists’ works illuminated on the façade of SOBO Art Gallery, creating a visually stunning immersive art experience. The public is invited to stroll by or bring a chair to enjoy the beautiful display powered by projection mapping.

Art Night VIP – an Immersive Art Experience in Curated Venues in Downtown Winter Garden (ticketed event)
- Description: Immerse yourself in the arts on this special night that grants VIP access to select venues throughout downtown for complimentary beverages and light appetizers, live entertainment, curated art exhibits, as well as a silent and live auction. The evening kicks off at Winter Garden City Hall with an Opening Toast, Wine & Cheese, and Live Music, and the High School Top Choice Annual Awards Show. Next, stroll to nearby Butterfly Sculpture Park to be amazed by Live Artists, Live Music, Light Refreshments, and select Cocktails. Next up is SOBO Art Gallery for a Live and Silent Auction as well as the Top Choice Annual Awards Show. The evening caps off at Pilars Loft & Roper Building for an outdoor Pop Art Exhibition, Live Music, Pilars Loft Participation Painting & Drawing, and Craft Cocktails from Pilars Loft.

World War II and West Orange County at Winter Garden Heritage Museum
- Description: Visit the Museum during the month of April to view the exhibit featuring photographs and artifacts honoring the service personnel who served in World War II both at home and abroad.

Spring Open House at Central Florida Railroad Museum

LIVE THEATRE
Something Rotten — Live Performance at the Garden Theatre
- Description: Brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are writing their way through the Renaissance, but are stuck in the shadow of famed playwright William Shakespeare. Sick and tired of failure, Nick visits a less-than-reputable soothsayer, who predicts that musicals will be the next big thing in theatre! The Bottom Brothers scramble to write the world’s first musical while fighting social norms, family struggles, and “The Bard” himself. Will opening night be an over-easy success or a rotten mess?

Silent & Live Auction
The Arts in April Auction will be held online from April 1 at 9:00 am through April 29 at 9:00 pm.
Items are now being accepted for inclusion in the 2023 Arts in April Auction!

The Winter Garden Art Association is currently seeking items to be auctioned during Arts in April and the Art Night VIP event, April 1 – 29.
The public is invited to view and bid on the Silent Auction items available for preview at the SOBO Art Gallery starting on April 1.
A “Live Bid” Auction of several specialty items will be held during the ticketed Art Night VIP event on April 29. Art Night VIP guests may also bid on the silent auction items at that time. The Silent & Live Auction will end at 9:00 pm during Art Night VIP.
Please note that ALL SUBMISSIONS are 100% DONATIONS. All monies raised will support the WGAA as well as additional local art and cultural organizations.

This Immersive Art Experience is the annual fundraiser for Winter Garden Art Association, a 501c3 non-profit association dedicated to expanding public access to art.
